Background

The exhibition draws on a selection of photographs from the Richard and Sarah Cocke collection (2006-2012). The collection of photographs are the result of a Heritage Lottery Fund project (started 2006) to record and create a digital database of public monuments and sculpture in East Anglia.

The photographs selected for this exhibition represent coastal sculptures across the region, to communicate with certain themes addressed in its corresponding conference, entitled ‘Museums, Coastlines and the Sea’. This conference will be held from 20-22 May 2015 at the University of East Anglia as part of the Sainsbury Institute for Art. The themes explored within this exhibition are: international trade, exploration and coastal communities.

The exhibition also experiments with dimensions by using 2D images to create 3D objects that are reminiscent of the original sculptures.
